Dr Pokorny is a highly qualified New Zealand-trained urologist. He graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Cape Town in 1998 and completed his basic Urology training in New Zealand in 2008. He then went to Brisbane to undertake a clinical and research fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he was awarded a PhD in 2013 for his thesis on the molecular biology of prostate cancer. During this time, he gained experience in laparoscopic kidney surgery and general urology and became an expert in stone surgery.

The study was published in European Urology in 2014 and has become a landmark paper. Dr Pokorny is now an expert in prostate MRI and has twice chaired the USANZ Prostate MRI workshop at the USANZ Annual Scientific meeting.
